Pizza Chili
It's chili weather again and I love it! Everyone has their own way of making chili and I love trying different recipes for chili! What's not to love about this one, pizza and chili? Delicious!
It's not hot at all with the Zesty Hot sausage! It was just right for our taste buds! The pepperoni in this chili was awesome! The chili seemed so meaty and we liked that!
I bought the New Bush's Chili Beans which had 2 different beans in the can and they were pinto and kidney and they were delicious! They are in a mild sauce and I wished the sauce was more medium or hot than mild but I will buy them again for chili! House smelled amazing!
Recipe adapted from PLAIN CHICKEN
1 pound ground beef
1 pound roll Zesty Hot Sausage like Bob Evans, Jimmy Dean, etc
1 cup pepperoni slices
1/3 cup onions, diced
1/3 cup green bell peppers, diced
1 Tablespoon minced garlic
2 cups pizza sauce
2 cups chunky salsa
4 cups water
6 Tablespoons chili powder
1 (16 ounce) can chili beans
2 Tablespoons sugar
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese, like in the green container
shredded Parmesan cheese for garnish
In a 5 quart pot brown ground beef and sausage, breaking up into smaller pieces. Add pepperoni when meats are almost done. Continue browning 5 more minutes. Remove from pot and drain.
While meat is draining, add onions and peppers into the same pot with a little olive oil and sauté until they are soft and a little brown. Add minced garlic for the last 2 minutes of sautéing.
Return meats to pot and mix well with onion/pepper mix.
Add pizza sauce, salsa, water, chili powder, beans, sugar and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well and bring to a boil, covered. Reduce heat to simmer, stir, covered for 30 minutes. Uncover and turn off heat and let sit 30 minutes without stirring.
Serve in bowls garnished with shredded Parmesan cheese.
