Tomato & Onion Smothered SteakWhat a fantastic meal! We love recipes made with onion soup mix! It goes so well with tomato sauce! I came up with this recipe with what I had on hand and it was delicious! Reminded me of Swiss Steak made with tomato gravy! The great debate, red based gravy or brown based gravy for Swiss Steak but we love it with both! The thing that separated this from the normal Swiss Steak was adding the dry onion soup mix! The steak was nice and tender smothered in the onion and tomato sauce! Yummy! I served this over buttered noodles and it was a perfect meal! extra virgin olive oil salt & pepper, to taste ¾-1 pound thin slices eye of the round steak, I had 4 slices in my pack 1/3 cup flour ½ cup onion, sliced 1 (14.5 ounce) can tomato sauce 1 packet dry onion soup mix Heat olive oil in skillet. Season steak with salt and pepper. Dredge in flour on both sides. Brown steak in olive oil. Remove from skillet and saute onions in skillet adding more olive oil if needed. Add tomato sauce and dry onion soup. Mix well. Place steak back into skillet and simmer 30 minutes, covered, stirring occasionally.
