Old West Bean & Burger Hobo Dinner
This recipe was so appealing to me because of the beans and BBQ sauce in the burgers! What's not to love about that combination? I'm so happy I put my hubby to work grilling this meal! Delicious! The BBQ sauce really shined thru the burgers with the taste of green bell peppers and onion! I bought Bush's Baked Beans with brown sugar and bacon and they were fantastic! I would have loved to have had homemade baked beans but time wasn't on my side so I went with quick and easy!
I love Hobo Dinners and this one was right on top with the others we have made! All winners and I have another Hobo recipe just waiting on me!
Anytime you put sauce in hamburger mixture it will have a tendency to fall apart but the bread crumbs held the meat together pretty good! Hubby only had 1 burger that was being stubborn but that was ok since it was all going to be together in foil! So flip your burgers carefully and baby them! The original recipe www.tablespoon.com/recipes/old-west-grilled-bean-and-burger-foil-packs/1c021b88-ad9e-425c-b080-993b5c1190a6 puts the beef patties in the foil uncooked but I don't like doing that and any time I make a Hobo Dinner, no matter what the meat is, I give it a sear on the grill first!
1 pound lean ground beef
1/2 cup plain bread crumbs
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 teaspoon pepper
seasoned salt, to taste
1 (15 ounce) can baked beans or your favorite homemade recipe
1 medium onion, sliced and separated into rings
1 medium green bell pepper, sliced into strips
Mix beef, bread crumbs, barbecue sauce, pepper and seasoned salt. Shape mixture into 4 patties.
Place on high heat grill and grill just a few minutes to get them done slightly and some color to them. Remove from grill and lower heat to medium/high heat.
Place each patty on 18x12 inch piece of heavy duty sprayed aluminum foil. Top patties with beans, onions and bell pepper, dividing evenly. Fold foil over mixture so edges meet. Seal edges, making tight 1/2-inch fold; fold again. Allow space on sides for circulation and expansion.
Cover and grill packets, seam sides up, 4 to 6 inches from medium heat 20 to 30 minutes or until beef is no longer pink in center and juice of beef is clear.
Remove from grill and carefully open foil, releasing steam. Let sit a few minutes.
Serve.
