Chicken Philly Cheesesteak
I love Cheesesteaks, chicken or beef but I'm eating low carb right now so I've cut out bread but you can make a delightful Cheesesteak Bowl! Yum Yum! It tasted amazing and hubby and I gobbled it down! You can by all means toast you up a hoagie bun and have the perfect Chicken Cheesesteak Sandwich!
I used Muenster cheese with this recipe for a few reasons
1) It's different from the norm of Provolone
2) It's a buttery, mild cheese. It is similar to Jack in taste, but with less bite.
3) The texture to me is similar to Colby before melting.
4) It melts super, maybe one of the best melters out there.
So have I sold you on Muenster Cheese?
The traditional cheesesteak is usually made with green bell peppers so I changed it up with red and orange and it was a great move! My hubby's favorite pepper is orange so he was very happy! My favorite is red and has anyone else noticed that the really dark red peppers are so much tastier than just the normal red? I'd like to know why!
Delicious low carb meal!
Recipe adapted from EASY HEALTHY LIVING
2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breast, cut into thin strips
A few shakes of Worcestershire sauce, to taste or about 1 Tablespoon
onion powder, to taste or about 1/8 teaspoon
garlic powder, to taste or about 1/8 teaspoon
cracked black pepper, to taste or about 1/8 teaspoon
seasoned salt, to taste
4 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil, divided
1 Medium sweet onion, cut into strips
2 large bell peppers, colors of your choice, I used 1 red, 1 orange, cut into strips
sea salt, to taste
1 Tablespoon minced garlic
8 slices Muenster cheese
Cut chicken into thin strips. Place in a bowl and add Worcestershire, onion powder, garlic powder and cracked black pepper. Mix well.
Heat 1 Tablespoon oil in skillet and add chicken. Cook and stir until done and juices run clear about 8-10 minutes. Add seasoned salt and mix well. Remove from skillet.
Add onions and peppers to medium high heat skillet and top with remaining olive oil, mixing well. Add sea salt and sauté until your desired likeness. I like to semi char mine. Add minced garlic to veggies for just another 2 minutes.
Return chicken to skillet with veggies, mixing well and then spreading out evenly.
Lowering heat to low, top with cheese slices and cover with lid. Turn heat off after 3-4 minutes and let cheese melt completely before removing lid.
If serving on hoagie buns, toast them or serve low carb in bowls/plate.
