Crockpot Pizza Sloppy Joes
Love when dinner is done after a long day! Pizza Sloppy Joes, doesn't that just ring a bell that it's something delicious? I knew I had to make it when I saw it! Fantastic!
The Italian Sausage is the star in this show and well deserved! It makes the taste of this sandwich sooooo good mixed in with the crushed red pepper! We love crushed red pepper on our pizza and most Italian dishes and this was no different! You can control how much you use and that will control the spiciness of your Sloppy Joes! We love a little spice in our lives!
Will make this again!
Recipe adapted from REAL HOUSEMOMS
1 pound ground beef, browned & drained
1 (16 ounce) roll Italian pork sausage
½ cup onion, diced
½ cup green bell pepper, diced
1 Tablespoon minced garlic
2 Tablespoons Dry Italian Salad Dressing Mix
crushed red pepper flakes, to taste
sea salt, to taste
Sauce
2 cups Spaghetti or Pizza sauce
½ cup water
1 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Toppings
sliced pepperoni
grated Parmesan cheese, from green container
shredded mozzarella cheese
brioche buns, toasted
In a large skillet over medium high heat, brown and crumble beef and sausage together. Drain. While meat drains, in the same skillet, saute onion, bell pepper and garlic. You may need some olive oil for sauteing. Return meat back to skillet with onion mixture and season with Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes and sea salt. Mix well.
In a crockpot liner or a sprayed crockpot place beef mixture. Stir in pizza sauce, water, vinegar, mustard and worcestershire.
Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours.
Spray butter or lightly butter inside of buns. Toast the inside of buns in a heated skillet.
When ready to serve, place Sloppy Joe mixture on bottom bun and top with cheese. Leave top bun out of broiler. Lay pepperoni on baking sheet aside from the bun and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
Broil open faced until cheese melts.
Remove from broiler and lay pepperoni on cheese and place top bun on top of sandwich.
