Pizza Hut Cavatini
One of my 1st jobs was a server at Pizza Hut! I fell in love with their Cavatini dish! I enjoyed it for many years after that job and now they don't offer it anymore on their menu! So I went hunting for the recipe and what I could remember about how the recipe was made and this recipe comes pretty darn close! Even though it isn't Pizza Hut's sauce in the mix it does come pretty close to their cavatini! I didn't use any ground beef in mine and used all Italian sausage which made for a delicious Cavatini!
The taste of the green peppers throughout really boosts the flavor along with all Italian sausage instead of half sausage, half ground beef! What a great meaty, cheesy, Italian dinner! I served this with garlic rolls and my house smelled amazing! This will be our go to Italian meal from now on! It beats the pants off of just having spaghetti or time consuming lasagna which I love both of those dishes! I also love cooking with wagon wheel pasta! Yum!
I used Pizza Hut At Home Blog site as a guide in making mine!
2 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 medium green pepper, diced
1 medium onion, diced
1 Tablespoon minced garlic
8 ounces assorted pasta (wheels, spirals, ziti)
4 ounces shredded parmesan cheese
30 small slices pepperoni
8 ounces shredded mozarella cheese
1 pound roll Italian sausage, browned and crumbled
24 ounces spaghetti sauce, chunky tomato
Preheat oven to 350°
Heat olive oil over medium heat in a skillet. Add onions, peppers, garlic and saute until tender.
Meanwhile in skillet, brown sausage and drain. Cook pasta according to box directions in a separate pot. Heat sauce and combine with browned sausage.
Spray an 8x11 or 9x13 casserole dish.
Layer pasta in the dish, followed by the peppers, onions and garlic, shredded parmesan, pepperoni and meat sauce. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
Bake for 30-40 minutes or until cheese is melted.
Let rest 15 minutes before slicing.
